You know what surprised me most about Vlado’s place? It’s one of those rare Belgrade apartments where you actually feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than a sterile rental. The building on Vojvode Stepe might look pretty standard from the outside – honestly, most of these residential blocks in Voždovac do – but once you’re inside apartment 11 on the fourth floor, it’s a completely different story.

Vlado has this knack for details that actually matter to travelers. I mean, sure, the apartment looks great in photos, but it’s the little things that got me: really good water pressure in the shower (not always a given in Belgrade), blackout curtains that actually block the morning light, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi password was taped right inside the door where you’d naturally look for it. The kitchen’s properly stocked too, not just the bare minimum you usually get. I ended up cooking a few meals because, well, there’s a decent Maxi market just a short walk down the street, and sometimes you want to eat breakfast in your pajamas, you know?

The location’s honestly perfect if you want to experience Belgrade like locals do rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble around Knez Mihailova. Voždovac has this lived-in neighborhood feel – you’ll hear kids playing in the courtyard in the afternoons, smell someone’s grandmother making sarma on Sunday mornings, that sort of thing. It’s about a 15-minute tram ride to get into the city center, and the tram stop’s practically at your doorstep. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond central Belgrade, you’re actually well-positioned here – getting to Nikola Tesla Airport is way easier from this side of the city than from some of the more “central” tourist areas.

I stayed during late spring, and the apartment stays surprisingly cool even when it gets warm outside. The building’s pretty quiet too – I was worried about street noise since Vojvode Stepe can get busy during rush hour, but being on the fourth floor really helps. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward; Vlado met me right on time and walked me through everything without that rushed feeling you sometimes get with apartment rentals. He’s clearly been doing this for a while and has figured out what questions people actually ask.

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Belgrade apartments over the years, and most are fine but forgettable. This one’s different – it’s got that 9.7 rating for good reason. It’s not trying to be fancy or impress you with marble countertops or whatever, it’s just thoughtfully put together by someone who understands what makes a stay comfortable. If you’re the type of traveler who appreciates genuine local neighborhoods over tourist districts, and you want a place that feels like a temporary home rather than just somewhere to crash, you’ll probably love it here as much as I did.
