You’re literally surrounded by some of Belgrade’s best-kept secrets – I’m talking about places like that little wine bar on Gospodar Jevremova that doesn’t even have a proper sign, or the fact that you can walk to Kalemegdan Fortress in about ten minutes without breaking a sweat. The building itself has character (translation: it’s got some age on it), but the apartment’s been updated in all the right ways. Good wifi, solid heating, and – this matters more than you’d think – decent sound insulation from the street. I stayed here during one of those lively Belgrade weekends when the whole Old Town gets pretty animated, and I could still sleep without earplugs. The 9.2 rating makes complete sense when you factor in that rare combination of authentic location, practical comfort, and the kind of local access that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing Belgrade rather than just visiting it. Plus, having a proper base in Stari Grad means you’re never more than a few minutes from wherever the evening takes you, whether that’s dinner in Skadarlija or drinks along the Danube.
