You know what’s funny about Belgrade? Everyone talks about staying near the pedestrian zone or by the fortress, but honestly, Studentski trg is where you actually want to be. I stumbled across this Belgrade Center Apartment almost by accident – was looking for something close to the university area, and man, did I luck out.

The thing is, this spot sits right in the heart of Stari Grad, but it’s on this quieter square that feels like you’ve discovered some local secret. I mean, you’re literally steps from Knez Mihailova (the main walking street), but without all the tourist chaos right outside your window. The apartment itself is solid – I’d call it a strong 4-star situation, nothing flashy but everything works exactly as it should. What really got me was how the owner clearly knows what travelers actually need. There’s proper blackout curtains (Belgrade gets bright early in summer), the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like half the places I’ve stayed, and – this might sound weird – but the shower pressure is actually decent. You’d be surprised how rare that is in older Belgrade buildings.

Here’s the local knowledge part: Studentski trg connects you to everything without feeling like you’re camping out in Times Square. Want coffee? There’s this little place called Kafeterija just around the corner where students hang out – way better than the overpriced spots on the main drag. Hungry? Dva Jelena is maybe a three-minute walk, and they do traditional Serbian food that doesn’t feel like it’s performing for tourists. The Republic Square is close enough that you can walk to the National Theatre or Museum, but far enough that you’re not dealing with crowd noise until 2 AM. And if you’re planning to explore beyond the center – which you should, honestly – the tram stops are right there, and taxis actually know where Studentski trg is (sounds obvious, but trust me on this one).

The 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’re there. It’s not trying to be some luxury experience, but everything just… works. Check-in was straightforward, the space feels bigger than the photos suggest, and there’s actually decent natural light during the day. I appreciated that they don’t blast you with tourist brochures and fake enthusiasm – just gave me the keys and let me figure out my own Belgrade adventure. Plus, and this matters if you’re sensitive to noise, the square is surprisingly quiet at night. You’ll hear some student chatter during the week, but it dies down pretty early. Weekends are a bit livelier, but nothing like what you’d get closer to the Skadarlija area. If I’m being completely honest, the only thing I’d change is maybe adding a proper coffee machine instead of just a kettle, but there’s so much good coffee within walking distance that it hardly matters. This is the kind of place you book when you want to feel like you’re living in Belgrade for a few days, not just passing through.
