Square Nine Hotel Belgrade-The Leading Hotels of The World
Okay, so I'll be honest - when I first walked up to Square Nine, I wasn't expecting much from the outside.
Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Square Nine, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this corner spot on Studentski trg, and the entrance is actually pretty understated for a five-star place. But man, the second you step inside, it’s like entering a completely different world. The lobby has this sleek, almost gallery-like feel with dark wood and these dramatic light fixtures that somehow manage to feel both modern and timeless.
The location is what really got me though. You’re literally in the heart of Stari Grad (the old town), which means you can walk to Republic Square in about three minutes, and Knez Mihailova – that’s the main pedestrian street where everyone goes to shop and people-watch – is right there. I mean, you’ll hear some street noise if you’re facing the square, but honestly? It’s more like the gentle hum of city life than anything disruptive. What I loved was stepping out in the morning and grabbing coffee from one of those tiny local spots nearby before the tourist crowds hit around 10 AM. There’s this little bakery on Dositejeva street that the hotel staff actually recommended – not some touristy place, but where locals actually go.
The rooms themselves are pretty spectacular, I have to say. Everything feels custom-designed rather than cookie-cutter luxury hotel stuff. The bathrooms are these gorgeous marble affairs with rainfall showers that actually have proper water pressure (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Europe). What struck me most was the attention to details you don’t usually notice until they’re done right – like the curtains that actually block out light completely, and closets with enough space that you’re not playing Tetris with your luggage. The beds are ridiculously comfortable too, which honestly saved me after some long days exploring Belgrade’s fortress and museums. One small thing – the air conditioning can be a bit finicky, but the staff sorts it out quickly if you mention it. Check-in was smooth as butter, and they genuinely seemed to know the city well when I asked for restaurant recommendations. They steered me toward this incredible Serbian place in Skadarlija (the bohemian quarter) that I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like someone actually thought about what travelers need rather than just what looks impressive in photos. If you’re the type who wants to be in the thick of things but still retreat to somewhere genuinely luxurious at the end of the day, this place nails that balance perfectly.

What could be improved: nothing
Amazing food, comfortable bed, very accommodating staff. They also have sauna, pool and gym - good break from a busy workweek we had in Belgrade
What could be improved: Language barriers with a few of the staff. This is understandable, the problem is how they handled the situation. It was like they ignored or snubbed me and I was standing there not knowing what to do because I was sure they heard me. It took a while for me to realize that they either are not fluent or dont speak English. Note however that most of the staff can speak english. I only happened to have encounter with two who are not quite fluent on my first day - electrician and cleaner. Im sure they didnt mean to make me feel snubbed.
The hotel interior is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and the staff is super friendly! Petar the concierge was super helpful!
What could be improved: Nothing, we liked everything!
Probably still the best hotel in Belgrade, great style, ironic lobby ...
