Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Surčin,” I thought I was heading to some random suburb that would take forever to get anywhere. But Aster Apartments completely changed my mind about this part of Belgrade. The building sits on Hajduk Veljkova, which is actually this quiet residential street that feels refreshingly normal after the tourist chaos of Skadarlija or Knez Mihailova. You know what struck me first? The apartments are genuinely spacious – not that cramped European “cozy” that usually means you can touch opposite walls at the same time.

The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel, which makes sense given the apartment-style layout. Each unit has a proper kitchen (I mean, with actual counter space and everything), and the living areas have these big windows that let in tons of light. The decor is clean and modern without being sterile – sort of that Scandinavian-meets-Balkan vibe that somehow works perfectly. What really impressed me was the attention to small details: good water pressure in the showers, blackout curtains that actually block light, and – this might sound weird – but the Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner of the apartment. I’ve stayed in five-star places where you had to sit in one specific chair to get decent internet.

Here’s the thing about Surčin that most people don’t realize – you’re actually closer to the airport than you’d be from central Belgrade, which is brilliant if you have early flights or just want to avoid that chaotic ride through the city center with luggage. The neighborhood has this authentic residential feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and kids playing in the small parks nearby. There’s a solid bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early and makes these incredible burek varieties – honestly, better than most places downtown. The tram connections are pretty decent too, though I’d recommend having the apartment staff explain the routes because Belgrade public transport can be… well, let’s just say it has its own logic. Parking is actually manageable here, which anyone who’s driven in Belgrade will tell you is basically a miracle. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with marble lobbies, but everything just works the way it should. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re comfortable, and they know the area well enough to give you actual useful recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots.
