I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to White Apartments on Surčinska, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address is in Novi Beograd, which some people think is just concrete blocks and government buildings, but this particular stretch actually surprised me. You’re tucked away from the main traffic chaos (trust me, that matters in Belgrade), and there’s something refreshingly quiet about this part of the neighborhood that you don’t get closer to the city center.

The thing about White Apartments is that it’s one of those places that gets the basics so right, you almost forget you’re not staying at someone’s well-appointed flat. The apartments themselves are spacious – I mean genuinely spacious, not “European spacious” where you’re bumping into furniture. The kitchens are actually functional, which is rarer than you’d think in hotel apartments, and honestly, after a few days of eating out in Belgrade (the portions are no joke), you’ll appreciate being able to make a simple breakfast or store some of those amazing Serbian cheeses you’ll inevitably buy at the market. The beds are comfortable in that firm-but-not-hard way, and the wifi actually works throughout the entire space – I was able to video call from the bedroom without that annoying lag you get in so many places.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the Danube, which is perfect for those early morning or evening strolls when the river catches the light just right. The nearby streets have that authentic Belgrade residential feel – you’ll see locals walking their dogs, kids playing in small parks, and little bakeries that open early and smell incredible. There’s a decent grocery store within walking distance, and while you’re not in the thick of the tourist action (Skadarlija feels like another world from here), you can catch public transport pretty easily when you want to dive into the old town. The 84 bus line runs regularly, and actually, the slightly removed location means you get a better night’s sleep than you would staying right in the center where the nightlife can get pretty intense. I mean, Belgrade knows how to party, but sometimes you just want to come home to peace and quiet. The staff at White Apartments seem to understand this balance – they’re helpful without being overly attentive, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No drama, no hidden fees, just keys and genuine recommendations when I asked about local spots.
