So here’s the thing about Maccani Black – it’s tucked away on the fifth floor of a building right on Trg Nikole Pašića, which honestly is one of those spots in Belgrade where you feel like you’re in the actual heart of the city without all the tourist trap nonsense. I mean, you’re literally steps from Republic Square, but somehow this place manages to feel like a secret that locals might actually keep to themselves.

The suites themselves are… well, they’re properly luxurious without being stuffy about it. You know how some places try so hard to be fancy that you’re afraid to touch anything? Not here. The black-and-gold design scheme could’ve been overdone, but they actually pulled it off – it feels sophisticated rather than trying-too-hard. And the space! These aren’t your typical cramped European hotel rooms where you’re bumping into furniture every five minutes. The bathrooms especially caught me off guard (in a good way) – proper rainfall showers and those little touches that make you think someone actually thought about what guests would want. The only thing I’d mention is that being on the fifth floor means you’re depending on the elevator, though honestly, that wasn’t an issue during my stay.

What really gets me about this location though is how walkable everything is. You can stumble out the front door and be at Skadarlija – that’s Belgrade’s bohemian quarter with all the traditional restaurants – in maybe eight minutes on foot. Or if you’re more in the mood for proper nightlife, the floating clubs on the Danube are close enough that you won’t need to figure out Belgrade’s taxi situation at 2 AM (trust me on this one). The pedestrian zone starts basically at your doorstep, so you’ve got that whole car-free wandering thing going for you. And here’s something I didn’t expect – despite being right in the center, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. I was prepared for city noise, but the windows must be decent because I slept fine. The staff seems to know their stuff too – not just the usual tourist recommendations, but actual local insights about where to grab coffee that doesn’t suck or which kafana won’t completely rip you off. That 8.8 rating makes sense when you add it all up – it’s the kind of place that gets the big things right (location, comfort, style) while not dropping the ball on details that actually matter when you’re trying to enjoy a city like Belgrade.
