You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Belgrade, but this apartment on Džordža Vašingtona really surprised me. I mean, when you first walk up – it’s right there in Stari Grad, which honestly can be hit or miss depending on the exact spot – but this location is actually perfect. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Skadarlija, which is Belgrade’s bohemian quarter (think cobblestones, traditional restaurants, and that slightly romanticized old-world vibe tourists love). But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re close enough to pop over for dinner or drinks, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the late-night crowd stumbling around singing folk songs at 2 AM.

The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there, not like those sterile hotel rooms where everything’s beige and bolted down. The 4-star rating seems about right – it’s got that comfortable, lived-in quality without being fancy-fancy. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is rare in this part of the city. The windows must be decent because even though you’re in the heart of everything, I slept really well. And honestly, the 9.8 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places where all the little details work. The shower actually has good pressure (you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case), the wifi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and there’s proper coffee-making stuff, not just those sad instant packets.

The location is what really sells it though. You can walk to Kalemegdan Fortress in about fifteen minutes – I did it most mornings, actually, because there’s something nice about having that route along the old streets before the day gets busy. Knez Mihailova, the main pedestrian street, is right there too, so you’re not stuck taking taxis everywhere or figuring out the bus system (which, let’s be honest, can be a bit of an adventure if you don’t speak Serbian). There’s a decent grocery store nearby – I think it’s a Maxi – so you can grab breakfast stuff or whatever without hunting around. And if you’re the type who likes to cook a bit while traveling, the kitchen setup is actually functional, not just decorative.

I stayed there in late spring, and the neighborhood has this great energy during the day – people walking their dogs, old guys playing chess in the small parks, that kind of everyday Belgrade life that you miss if you’re stuck in some business hotel by the river. The check-in was smooth too, which isn’t always a given with apartment rentals. The host was responsive and actually gave good recommendations, not just the obvious tourist stuff. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s street parking mostly – but honestly, you probably don’t need a car if you’re staying here anyway.
