Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the address for Apartment Elza, I thought “okay, another generic Belgrade rental.” But walking up to this place on Kičevska street, you immediately get why it’s pulling those insane 9.6 ratings. The building itself has that solid, pre-war Belgrade character that you don’t find everywhere, and being on Vračar means you’re actually in one of the city’s most livable neighborhoods (locals will tell you it’s where they’d want to live if they had the choice).

What really got me was stepping inside apartment 13 – and I mean this in the best way possible – it feels like staying at a friend’s place who happens to have incredible taste. The space is thoughtfully put together without being sterile, you know? There’s this attention to detail that you don’t usually see in short-term rentals. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to grab some fresh produce from the nearby Kalenic market, which is honestly one of Belgrade’s best-kept secrets and just a few minutes’ walk away. The WiFi is solid (I worked from there for three days straight), and the shower pressure – well, let’s just say it’s better than most hotels I’ve stayed at in the Balkans.

Here’s what I really appreciate about this spot: the location gives you that authentic Belgrade experience without the tourist trap feel. You’re close enough to walk to Skadarlija when you want that cobblestone restaurant scene, but you’re also near Svetogorska street where actual Belgraders go for coffee and dinner. Parking can be a bit tricky in Vračar (it’s an older neighborhood), but there are usually spots if you don’t mind walking a block or two. The building is quiet – I stayed during a weekend and barely heard any street noise, which is saying something for Belgrade. Check-in was surprisingly smooth too; the host actually knows the neighborhood and gave me some solid recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. I mean, where else would someone tell you about the tiny bookshop café on Njegoševa that stays open late? The only thing I’d mention is that it’s on the second floor with no elevator, but honestly, after all the rakija and ćevapi you’ll probably consume in Belgrade, you’ll welcome the extra steps.
