Magenta New Belgrade

You know what caught me off guard about Magenta New Belgrade? It’s actually way cooler than I expected for a hotel stuck on a boulevard with such a mouthful of a name. I mean, Bulevar maršala Tolbuhina isn’t exactly rolling off anyone’s tongue, but honestly, once you’re there, the location makes total sense. You’re right in the heart of New Belgrade – which, despite its name, has been around since the 70s – and it’s this weird perfect spot where you can walk to the Sava riverfront in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to hop on public transport to get to the old city center without any drama.

The building itself has this sleek, modern thing going on that doesn’t try too hard to be flashy. When I walked into the lobby, there was this subtle lighting situation happening – not too bright, not trying to be a nightclub – and the staff actually seemed like they wanted to be there, which you can’t say about every place. My room was on the seventh floor, and I’ll be honest, the view wasn’t going to win any postcards, but it was clean and the bed was legitimately comfortable. The bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works (you know how some hotels have those fancy showerheads that barely drizzle?). What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night – New Belgrade can get pretty busy with traffic, but somehow the windows blocked most of that out.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the breakfast spread was legitimately good. Not just “decent for a hotel” good, but actually good. They had proper Serbian pastries alongside the usual international stuff, and the coffee – well, it’s Serbia, so of course the coffee was solid. The restaurant area looks out toward the city, and in the morning you get this nice natural light that makes you want to linger over your meal. Plus, there’s decent parking if you’re renting a car, which can be a nightmare in some parts of Belgrade. I stayed there during late spring, and the whole area was pretty lively – lots of locals walking around, cafes buzzing, that kind of energy that makes you feel like you’re somewhere real rather than just another tourist bubble. The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it nails the basics and adds just enough personality to make you remember it fondly.
