So I stumbled across Hotel Passpartù Home Garni during one of those late-night booking sessions where you’re desperately trying to find something decent in Belgrade’s old town that won’t break the bank. Honestly? Best accidental find I’ve made in years. The place sits right on Kneginje Ljubice street, which — if you know Belgrade at all — puts you smack in the heart of Stari Grad where all the good stuff happens. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Skadarlija (the cobblestone bohemian quarter that everyone raves about) and close enough to the fortress that you can actually see it from some of the upper floor windows.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling like a proper hotel and not losing the neighborhood charm. The building itself has this understated elegance — you know, the kind where someone clearly put thought into the details without going overboard. My room had these lovely hardwood floors that actually creaked a little when you walked around (in a good way, not in a “this place is falling apart” way), and the windows were big enough that I could people-watch the locals heading to the market in the morning with their coffee. Speaking of coffee, the breakfast setup is simple but they source from local roasters, which… I mean, when you’re in the Balkans, why would you want hotel chain coffee anyway? The staff genuinely seems to know the area too — not in that rehearsed concierge way, but like they actually live here and can tell you which kafana has the best ćevapi or when the museum crowds thin out.

The whole “garni” thing in the name basically means it’s more of a boutique setup without a full restaurant, but honestly, that works perfectly for this location. You’ve got incredible food literally everywhere within walking distance, and the hotel’s breakfast is substantial enough that you’re not starving by 10 AM. I will say the rooms can get a bit warm in summer since it’s an older building, but they’ve got good AC and the windows open wide for those perfect Belgrade evenings when there’s actually a breeze. Parking can be tricky — this is old town Belgrade after all — but they’ll help you figure it out, and really, you don’t need a car here anyway. The trams and buses connect you to everything, and half the joy is just wandering these streets. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks they’re doing something right here.
