Central Park Residence

You know what struck me first about Central Park Residence? The name’s actually pretty misleading – there’s no Central Park here, obviously, since we’re in Belgrade, not New York. But honestly, once you step inside this place on Gospodar Jevremova, you sort of get why they went with it. The whole vibe feels like they’re trying to channel that cosmopolitan energy, and in some ways, it works.

The location is honestly fantastic if you want to be right in the thick of things in Stari Grad. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Skadarlija – that cobblestone bohemian quarter where all the kafanas are buzzing until late (fair warning: it can get pretty loud on weekend nights, especially if you’re facing that direction). The Republic Square is maybe a five-minute stroll, and you can easily walk to Kalemegdan Fortress without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciated was how close you are to those little bakeries and grocery stores that locals actually use – there’s this tiny pekara around the corner that does incredible burek, and the lady working there in the mornings always seemed genuinely happy to see repeat customers.

The rooms themselves are… well, they’re solid four-star territory, though not fancy-fancy. Clean, comfortable beds, decent WiFi that actually works (tested it extensively), and the bathrooms are renovated enough that you’re not dealing with communist-era plumbing issues. The staff at check-in was surprisingly helpful – they actually drew on a map showing me which tram lines to take and warned me about construction on one of the main streets. That 7.4 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but there’s nothing really wrong with it either. The breakfast is continental style and pretty standard, though they do have some local touches like kajmak and proper Serbian coffee if you ask for it. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator – it’s one of those tiny European ones that barely fits two people with luggage, so if you’re on the fifth floor and in a hurry, well, plan accordingly. But the trade-off is you’re staying in a building that has some actual character, not some generic modern box. The whole area comes alive in the evenings, and you can just walk out your door and be part of it all – street musicians, people meeting for coffee, that whole relaxed Balkan evening ritual that’s hard to find anywhere else.
