Belle Apartments – Square 8

You know what’s funny about Belgrade? Everyone talks about the fortress and Knez Mihailova, but honestly, some of the best finds are tucked away on these quieter streets that most tourists walk right past. Belle Apartments on Studentski trg is one of those places – I mean, the name literally translates to “Students’ Square,” which should tell you something about the vibe here. It’s this lovely little pocket in Stari Grad where you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the chaos that you can actually sleep at night.

The building itself has that solid, old Belgrade feel – thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet even though you’re basically in the heart of the old town. I was worried about noise when I first booked (student area and all), but the apartments are well-insulated, and the square itself is more residential than party central. The 4-star rating isn’t just for show either – these aren’t your typical cramped European city apartments. The spaces feel generous, with proper kitchens that you’d actually want to use and bathrooms where you don’t bump your elbows on everything. There’s something refreshing about having real plates and decent coffee cups instead of those flimsy plastic things you get in most short-term rentals.

What really gets me is the location – you’re maybe a 5-minute walk to Republic Square, but it feels like you’re living in a neighborhood rather than staying in tourist central. There’s this great little bakery just around the corner where locals grab their morning burek, and you can walk to Kalemegdan in about ten minutes if you take the scenic route through the cobblestone streets. The tram stop is close enough that getting around the city is actually pleasant rather than stressful. And here’s the thing about Belgrade that took me a while to figure out – parking in the center is basically a nightmare, but staying right here means you can walk to most places you’d want to see anyway. The few times I needed to venture further out, the public transport connections are solid. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward hunting around for key lockboxes or waiting around for someone to show up. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you add it all up: it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything just works the way it should.
