Cute and cozy

You know what? I almost walked past this place three times before I realized I’d found it. The name “Cute and Cozy” honestly made me roll my eyes a bit when I first booked – I mean, who names their hotel that? But walking up to 22a Svetog Save, tucked into this lovely tree-lined stretch in Vračar, I had to admit they weren’t lying about either part.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely in one of Belgrade’s most livable neighborhoods. I’d step out in the morning and there’s this gorgeous Orthodox church just down the street – Saint Sava Temple, which you can actually see from some of the upper floor windows if you lean out a bit. The location is sort of perfect because you’re close enough to walk to Knez Mihailova (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the cafes), but you’re staying where actual Belgradians live. There’s a small market practically next door where I’d grab fresh bread and the woman behind the counter started recognizing me after day two. The rooms themselves feel more like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel – they’ve got this warm, slightly eclectic vibe with local artwork and furniture that doesn’t match perfectly but somehow works. What really got me was the attention to small things: really good coffee in the lobby (not that instant stuff), proper blackout curtains that actually block the morning light, and honestly the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in during three weeks of Balkan hotel-hopping.

The staff runs the place like they genuinely care about whether you have a good time in their city. The woman at reception – I think her name was Marija – drew me a hand-sketched map to this incredible little restaurant in Dorćol and told me exactly when to show up to avoid the dinner rush. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t get from a chain hotel. Parking can be a bit tricky on Svetog Save itself, but there’s usually space on the side streets, and honestly, you won’t need your car much once you’re settled in. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, which I loved, though you might hear some weekend revelry from the nearby bars – nothing too crazy, just the sound of people actually enjoying themselves. I stayed here twice during my month in Belgrade, and the second time felt like coming back to a friend’s place. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll find yourself lingering over coffee in the morning, planning your day, instead of rushing out to escape a sterile hotel lobby.
