So I stumbled across this gem on Skadarska Street last spring, and honestly, it's one of those places that makes you feel like you've discovered something special that most tourists completely miss.
So I stumbled across this gem on Skadarska Street last spring, and honestly, it’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special that most tourists completely miss. The Cosmopolitan Apartment sits right in the heart of Stari Grad – you know, the old town part of Belgrade that actually feels authentically Serbian rather than tourist-trapped. Walking up to number 17, you’re basically stepping into what locals call the “Montmartre of Belgrade,” though I’d argue it’s got more character than its Parisian counterpart.
The building itself has that weathered charm you only get in the Balkans – thick stone walls that keep things blissfully cool during those scorching July afternoons, and windows that frame the cobblestone streets perfectly. What really got me was how quiet it actually is, considering you’re literally surrounded by some of Belgrade’s best kafanas (those traditional restaurants that somehow stay lively until 3 AM). I mean, Skadarska is famous for its nightlife, but the apartment’s positioned just right so you get the atmosphere without the noise bleeding through. The sound insulation is surprisingly solid – something I definitely wasn’t expecting from a building this old.
Inside, it’s clear someone put real thought into making this feel like home rather than just another rental. The kitchen actually has proper cookware (not those sad, dented pots you usually find), and there’s this gorgeous old wooden table that looks out toward the street. You’ll catch glimpses of people heading to dinner at places like Tri Šešira or Dva Jelena – those legendary spots that have been serving the same families for generations. The bathroom’s been renovated without losing that European apartment character, though I will say the shower pressure could use some work. Not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning.
What really sets this place apart is the location knowledge you get just by staying here. The owner – or maybe it was the person who checked me in, honestly can’t remember – left this handwritten note about which bakery opens earliest (it’s the one two blocks down toward Dorćol), and where to find the best produce market on weekends. That kind of insider info is gold when you’re trying to live like a local for a few days. Plus, you’re a ten-minute walk from Kalemegdan Fortress, though the real treat is discovering all the tiny galleries and antique shops tucked into the side streets you’ll wander through getting there.
The whole experience feels like staying in someone’s carefully curated Belgrade apartment rather than a generic hotel room. It’s got that 9.7 rating for good reason – everything works, it’s spotlessly clean, and the neighborhood gives you that authentic Belgrade experience without making you feel like you’re roughing it. Just don’t expect concierge service or daily housekeeping; this is more about independence and really getting to know the city. If you’re the type who wants to explore Belgrade’s café culture, stumble home from late dinners, and wake up to the smell of fresh bread from actual neighborhood bakeries, this is your spot.

Everything was perfect. Great location, lovely new apartment. Will definitely be rebooking this apartment for my next visit. 10/10.
What could be improved: nothing everything was great.
Slobodan's apartment on Skadarska street exceeded all our expectations! The wide and well-designed space was an absolute delight. Besides being a fantastic place to relax, it offered a comfortable working area with high-speed internet, making it ideal for remote work. The wide shower room was a pleasant surprise, providing a refreshing start to each day. To top it off, Slobodan's thoughtful touch of leaving chocolates made the stay even more special))) We felt pampered and at home throughout our visit, and we can't wait to return to this charming oasis in the heart of the city!
What could be improved: While we didn't use the kitchenette extensively, we noticed a lack of hot water. We suspect there might be a specific button or switch that we didn't press to activate the water heating system.
