You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Belgrade over the years, and Central Belgrade Apartments 3 on Gospodar Jovanova really surprised me. First off, that 9.6 rating isn’t just inflated nonsense – this place actually delivers. The location is honestly perfect if you want to be right in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of, say, staying directly on Knez Mihailova where the street performers and crowds never stop.

Gospodar Jovanova is one of those cobblestone streets that feels authentically Belgrade – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the main pedestrian zone, but when you step outside in the morning, you get that quiet, residential vibe with locals heading to work and old-timers sitting at corner cafés. I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and be at Kalemegdan Fortress in five minutes, which is clutch if you’re trying to catch that sunrise view over the Danube and Sava confluence (trust me on this one). The building itself has that solid, pre-war feel – thick walls that actually keep the noise out, unlike some of the newer constructions around town.

What really got me was the attention to detail in the apartments themselves. The owner clearly knows what travelers need because there’s proper coffee equipment (not just instant packets), decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and – this is huge – actual blackout curtains. Belgrade can get pretty bright in summer, and if you’re dealing with jet lag or just want to sleep in after a night exploring the floating river clubs, you’ll appreciate this. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and honestly, the water pressure is better than half the hotels I’ve tried in the city center.

Parking can be a bit tricky in Stari Grad – it’s mostly street parking and you’ll need to figure out the zone system – but that’s true anywhere in the old town, and the trade-off is worth it. You’re walking distance from everything that matters: Skadarlija for traditional Serbian food, the bohemian quarter for late-night drinks, Republic Square for people-watching, and all those hidden kafanas tucked into side streets that you’d never find if you were staying out in New Belgrade. Plus, if you need groceries or pharmacy stuff, there’s a Maxi market just around the corner on Cara Dušana.

I actually ended up extending my stay an extra two nights because – well, partly because Belgrade does that to you, but also because the apartment just felt comfortable in a way that made me want to linger. The hosts are responsive without being overbearing, and they clearly know the neighborhood well enough to give you solid recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. For a 4-star place, it punches above its weight, and that rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting apartment-style space and privacy with hotel-level service, right in the heart of one of Europe’s most underrated cities.
