Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from an apartment hotel tucked away on Jug Bogdanova – I mean, it’s one of those Belgrade streets that locals know but tourists usually stumble upon by accident. But Astra Apartment completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. The building sits right in Savski Venac, which is actually perfect if you know Belgrade at all. You’re literally walking distance from Knez Mihailova (the main pedestrian zone), but far enough from the chaos that you can actually sleep at night without drunk tourists singing outside your window at 3 AM.

What struck me first was how quiet it gets once you step inside – there’s something about being on the ground floor that I thought might be problematic, but the street itself is surprisingly peaceful, especially in the evenings. The apartment has that lived-in feeling that’s way better than sterile hotel rooms, you know? Like someone actually thought about what travelers need instead of just cramming in generic furniture. The kitchen situation is solid too, which matters more than people think when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights. I actually ended up cooking a few meals there because, well, Belgrade’s restaurant scene is incredible but your wallet needs a break sometimes. The neighborhood has a couple of those small Serbian grocery stores within a two-minute walk – the kind where the owner remembers your face after the second visit.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to the fortress (Kalemegdan) without breaking a sweat, but you’re also close enough to the Sava riverfront that evening strolls become a thing. I found myself walking down to the water most nights because it’s genuinely beautiful, especially when the sun sets behind New Belgrade across the river. Public transport is decent from here too – not that you’ll need it much since most of what you want to see is walkable, but it’s nice knowing you can hop on a bus or tram easily. The 9.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s one of those places where all the little things just work. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually functioned properly (not always a given in Belgrade), and honestly, the whole experience felt more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment than dealing with typical hotel nonsense. If you’re the type who appreciates being in a real neighborhood instead of some tourist bubble, this place delivers without any of the usual compromises.
