You know what surprised me about the Amsterdam Hotel? The name had me expecting some sort of Dutch theme situation, but honestly, it’s just a solid Belgrade hotel that happens to have a quirky name. Located on Jug Bogdanova street in Savski Venac, it sits in this interesting spot where you’re close enough to the action but not drowning in tourist chaos – which, if you’ve spent any time in Belgrade during summer, you’ll appreciate.

The building itself has that kind of understated elegance that actually works better than some of the flashier places trying too hard to impress. I mean, it’s a proper 4-star setup with an 8.5 rating that feels earned rather than bought. The lobby doesn’t try to wow you with marble everything, but there’s something comfortable about it – like they focused on making sure stuff actually works instead of just looking impressive. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood rather than just rattling off scripted recommendations. When I asked about getting to Skadarlija (because honestly, who doesn’t end up there at least once), the desk person gave me the kind of walking directions that included shortcuts and which streets get crazy busy after 9 PM.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run 4-star – clean, properly sized, with that kind of modern comfort that doesn’t feel sterile. What I really appreciated was the attention to practical details. The WiFi actually worked consistently (not always a given in this part of the city), the air conditioning didn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and the windows had proper blackout curtains – small things that make a huge difference when you’re trying to sleep off a night exploring Belgrade’s legendary nightlife. The bathroom was spacious enough that you’re not doing gymnastics to shower, and the water pressure was solid. Location-wise, you’re walking distance from some excellent kafanas that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet, and it’s an easy stroll to the fortress area when you want those Instagram-worthy Danube views. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll see locals going about their daily business rather than just other hotel guests and tour groups. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – typical for central Belgrade – but the hotel staff knows the tricks for finding spots or can point you toward the nearest garage. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly if you want to experience Belgrade like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through with a guidebook.
