Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartment A Block Ekon on Gagarina Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The name sounds pretty corporate, and Novi Beograd can feel a bit sterile compared to the old city across the river. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The building sits right in the heart of New Belgrade’s business district, which means you’re surrounded by those communist-era apartment blocks and modern office towers – it’s not exactly picturesque, but there’s something oddly charming about it once you settle in. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful (not just going through the motions), and they actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give me proper directions to the good bakery two blocks down on Bulevar Mihajla Pupina. The apartments themselves are spacious – I mean really spacious by European standards – with proper kitchens that you can actually cook in, not just reheat coffee. The furnishing is modern without being sterile, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in this part of the Balkans.

What really won me over was how well-connected everything is from here. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk to the Sava riverfront, where locals jog and walk their dogs in the evenings, and the tram stop right outside gets you to the historic center in about fifteen minutes. The neighborhood comes alive around dinner time – there’s this excellent Serbian restaurant called Manufaktura just around the corner that the hotel staff recommended, and they were spot-on. Parking is actually manageable here too, which anyone who’s tried to drive in Belgrade will appreciate. The area gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, so if you’re someone who needs absolute silence to sleep, you’ll be happy. During the day there’s the usual city hum, but nothing that’ll keep you awake. I stayed here during both a busy conference week and a quieter weekend, and the service stayed consistently good – the cleaning staff pay attention to details, and maintenance issues get handled quickly. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout (I was working remotely part of the time), and the air conditioning actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in this part of Europe. It’s not a luxury hotel in the traditional sense, but it’s exactly what you want when you need a comfortable base to explore Belgrade without paying downtown prices or dealing with tourist crowds every time you walk out the door.
