You know what struck me first about Alex Central Apartments? The building itself – it’s got this solid, no-nonsense feel that screams “locals actually live here” rather than tourist trap. Tucked on Kapetan-Mišina street in Stari Grad, you’re basically in the heart of old Belgrade without being right on top of the chaos. I mean, you can walk to Knez Mihailova in about ten minutes, but when you step outside here, it feels like a proper neighborhood where people are heading to work or grabbing groceries, not just snapping selfies.

The apartments themselves are honestly what four stars should look like – clean, functional, with enough space that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every time you turn around. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is sort of miraculous considering you’re this close to everything. The windows are decent quality, and the street isn’t one of those main thoroughfares where trams are clanking by at 6 AM. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward hovering around a tiny lobby while someone figures out your reservation. The staff actually seemed to know the area well, which… well, you’d be surprised how rare that is sometimes.

Here’s the thing about this location that most people don’t realize until they’re actually staying here – you’re walking distance from some of Belgrade’s best stuff that isn’t necessarily in the guidebooks. There’s this little bakery around the corner that does incredible burek (I probably went there three times), and you can easily wander over to Dorćol or down toward the fortress without feeling like you need to plan some major expedition. The tram connections are solid if you want to venture further out, but honestly, I found myself just walking everywhere. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – street spots fill up pretty quickly during the day, but it’s manageable if you’re not too picky about walking a block or two. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me; it’s the kind of place that just works without any drama, delivers what it promises, and doesn’t try to oversell itself with fancy nonsense you don’t actually need.
