Tsar Dušan Apartment

You know what struck me first about Tsar Dušan Apartment?

You know what struck me first about Tsar Dušan Apartment? It’s tucked away on this cobblestone street in Stari Grad where you can actually hear your footsteps echoing off the old buildings – I mean, you’re literally staying in Belgrade’s beating heart, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The entrance is on the first floor (which is actually the second floor if you’re American like me), and honestly, climbing those worn stone steps felt like stepping back in time, but in the best possible way.

The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious for a European city center place – you’ve got room to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for a week. What really got me was how thoughtfully everything was set up; there’s this little kitchen area that’s actually functional, not just for show, and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you want to stay in there way too long. The owner clearly gets what travelers need because there are outlets where you actually want them, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and – this is huge – blackout curtains that work. You’ll thank me for mentioning that when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag while the summer sun’s still blazing at 8 PM.

But here’s the thing that makes this place special: the location is absolutely unbeatable without being overwhelming. You’re a three-minute walk from Skadarlija (Belgrade’s bohemian quarter) where you can get the best ćevapi in the city, and Republic Square is close enough that you can wander over for evening drinks without planning your whole day around it. I spent most mornings walking down to the Danube – it’s maybe ten minutes if you take your time and stop for coffee at one of those tiny cafés that only locals seem to know about. The neighborhood gets lively in the evenings, sure, but it’s more “charming European street life” than “can’t sleep because of drunk tourists.” Plus, if you’re into the nightlife scene, you’re perfectly positioned but not stuck in the middle of the chaos. The host was actually responsive too, which seems rare these days – answered questions quickly and gave solid recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. For a 4-star place with a 9.5 rating, it honestly delivers on both the comfort and the authentic Belgrade experience without trying too hard to be either.

Neat, clean apartment, small but full of everything you need. There were all the groceries you could need. (oil, salt, sugar, coffee, tea…). The owner is very caring and polite, he allowed us to check in very early.

It was clean and useful. It was in the center and we didn't encounter any incomfortable situation. The price was very reasonable. I wqs a bit sceptic about it becuase I had to put my card but it wasn't charged. I underdtand that is for the sake of cancellation. The payment was in cash but everything went smoothly.

Very friendly and helpful host. The apartment is amazing and at the perfect location in town. Extra points go because of the comfy bed & soft pillows for a good sleep.

What could be improved: We have nothing to complain about.

We had a holiday with the family for 12 days 22.06-04.07.24. Super flat, super cool host. I immediately responded to all the questions.

The apartment is located almost in the centre of Belgrade. Entrance from the yard, 2nd floor. Public transport stop within a minute's walk. Opposite is a wonderful bakery. The owner of the apartment met us, showed/explained/told everything, decorated the white cardboard. The apartment has everything you need. There are a lot of places, very comfortable. We recommend this accommodation facility to everyone! Many thanks to Ratko for the hospitality!

The apartment is a very clean and comfortable and well organised one. It is small but adequate in terms of facilities and size. The hosts were very helpful and communicated quickly. I would choose this place again. The location is good at about 500 m away from Republic Square, the National Museum, and the National Theatre. It is easy to take many buses from the location of the apartment.

What could be improved: It's not something that I didn't like it at all, but it is good to know that you enter the apartment via a rather derelict looking courtyard and set of terraces. It is an old building and the original structure is the same. It looks a little alarming when you enter the apartment you will find everything new and clean and comfortable. I liked being able to see the way people lived in the past in this type of urban residential building.
