You know what surprised me most about Kapetan-Misa? I’d walked past that corner on Kapetan-Mišina street probably a dozen times before I actually noticed it was a hotel. It’s tucked into Stari Grad in this unassuming way that feels very Belgrade – no flashy signs or tourist traps, just this solid four-star place that locals seem to know about but doesn’t scream for attention. The minute you step inside though, you get it. There’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here, which honestly isn’t something you can say about every hotel in the city center.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Belgrade at all – you’re right in the heart of the old town but on one of those side streets that doesn’t get the heavy pedestrian traffic from Knez Mihailova. I mean, you can walk to Republic Square in maybe three minutes, but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos all night long. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned I’d found them online; apparently a lot of their guests are repeat visitors or people who heard about the place through word of mouth. That 9.6 rating starts making sense when you realize they’re clearly doing something right without trying too hard to impress tourists. The rooms have this comfortable, lived-in quality – not fancy in an Instagram way, but everything works perfectly and you can tell the beds are actually good quality (I’m picky about mattresses and slept better than I have in months).

What really sold me on the place was how the morning routine felt. You know how some hotels have that rushed, impersonal breakfast scene where you’re just another face grabbing coffee? Here it was more like… well, I guess like staying at a friend’s place where they actually want to make sure you’re set up for the day. The guy at reception – I think he might have been the owner – asked where I was planning to go and gave me this whole rundown about which tram to take to avoid the construction near Terazije. These are the kinds of details you remember long after you’ve forgotten what the bathroom tiles looked like. If you’re planning to spend time exploring Belgrade properly rather than just hitting the obvious tourist spots, Kapetan-Misa feels like the kind of base where you can actually relax between adventures. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it might just be one of the most thoughtfully run.
