Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to KaLuMa2 on Zetska Street – the name alone had me scratching my head. But you know what? Sometimes the places with quirky names turn out to be absolute gems, and this little four-star spot in Stari Grad is exactly that kind of surprise.

The thing about this neighborhood is that you’re literally in the heart of old Belgrade without all the tourist chaos. I mean, you can walk to Skadarlija in like ten minutes if you want that cobblestone restaurant scene, but Zetska itself is where actual Belgraders live and work. There’s this great little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – I’d grab fresh burek there most mornings and bring it back to eat in the hotel’s surprisingly quiet courtyard area. The staff at KaLuMa2 totally got this routine and would always have extra napkins ready for me at the front desk, which sounds small but honestly made my whole stay feel more… I don’t know, personal?

What really sold me on this place was how they’ve managed to keep that old Belgrade character without making you feel like you’re staying in a museum. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings – you can tell the building has history – but everything actually works properly. The shower pressure is fantastic (seriously, after a long day walking around Kalemegdan, this matters), and the beds are firm enough that you don’t wake up feeling like you slept in a hammock. I stayed there during late spring when the windows were open at night, and you could hear the city settling down but not in an annoying way. More like… Belgrade’s evening soundtrack, if that makes sense. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which I appreciated since I was doing some work remotely.

The location is really what makes it special though. You’re close enough to walk everywhere – Knez Mihailova shopping street, the fortress, those amazing riverside cafes – but you’re not dealing with the noise and crowds that come with staying right in the thick of things. Plus, parking around there isn’t completely impossible like it is in some parts of Stari Grad, which anyone who’s driven in Belgrade will tell you is basically a miracle. The front desk folks speak excellent English and actually seem to enjoy helping you figure out the best way to get places. They steered me toward this incredible traditional restaurant that I never would have found on my own – the kind of place where locals go for Sunday lunch with their families.

I’ll be honest, the 9.8 rating seemed almost too good to be true when I booked, but after staying there? It actually makes sense. It’s not trying to be fancy in some generic international hotel way. Instead, it feels like someone took a beautiful old Belgrade building and turned it into exactly the kind of place you’d want to stay if you were visiting the city. The price point is reasonable, the service feels genuine, and you end up with stories to tell instead of just another forgettable hotel experience.
