Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to J&J apartments on Janis Janulis street – the building looks pretty unassuming from the outside, tucked into this quiet residential stretch in Voždovac. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to show off.

The moment you step inside, it’s clear someone actually cares about this place. The apartments have that lived-in comfort that feels way more genuine than those sterile hotel chains – I mean, there’s real art on the walls, not those generic prints you see everywhere. The kitchen actually has proper cookware (not just the bare minimum), and the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. The beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Belgrade, and trust me, I’ve done my share of apartment hopping in this city. You’ll sleep well here, even with the occasional tram rumbling by in the distance – though it’s really not that noisy, especially compared to staying closer to the city center chaos.

Location-wise, this is where J&J really shines, though you might not realize it at first glance. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Skadarlija, but Voždovac has this authentic Belgrade vibe that tourists usually miss. There’s this fantastic bakery about three blocks down that locals line up at every morning – their burek is ridiculous. And here’s the thing about being slightly outside the tourist bubble: you’re actually closer to some of Belgrade’s hidden gems. Avala Tower is a quick drive away, and getting into the city center takes maybe 15-20 minutes by public transport (there’s a bus stop practically at your doorstep). Parking isn’t the nightmare it is downtown either, which honestly saved my sanity. The neighborhood feels safe to walk around, even late at night – lots of families, dog walkers, that sort of comfortable residential energy. I actually found myself preferring to come back here and decompress rather than staying out all night in the city center. Sometimes you want that local experience without sacrificing comfort, and J&J hits that sweet spot perfectly. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just really, really good at being what it is.
