Hotel Sterling Garni

So I’ve stayed at Hotel Sterling Garni a handful of times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression? It’s not going to wow you with flashy lobbies or marble everything – this is more of a solid, no-nonsense kind of place that just gets the job done well. The building itself sits on Pazinska Street in Voždovac, which I know sounds like you’re way out in the suburbs, but you’re actually only about 15 minutes from the city center by car, and there’s decent public transport if you don’t mind a bit of walking.

What I really appreciate about Sterling Garni is that it feels like they’ve figured out what business travelers and practical tourists actually need. The rooms are clean and modern without trying too hard – you know what I mean? Good Wi-Fi (which actually works, unlike some places I could mention), decent air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and bathrooms that have proper water pressure. The “garni” part means it’s more of a boutique setup without a full restaurant, but there’s a solid breakfast spread and honestly, you’re in Belgrade – you want to be eating out at the kafanas and restaurants anyway. I mean, the whole point is to experience the city’s incredible food scene.

The neighborhood itself is pretty residential and quiet, especially at night, which is perfect if you’re someone who needs actual sleep. You’ll hear the occasional tram in the distance, but it’s more of a comforting city sound than anything disruptive. Parking is usually available right there, which – trust me on this – is worth its weight in gold in Belgrade. The staff has always been helpful when I’ve needed directions or restaurant recommendations, and they seem to genuinely know the area well rather than just reciting tourist spots. One thing I’d mention is that while it’s a 4-star place, it’s more of a “comfortable and reliable 4-star” rather than a “luxurious 4-star,” if that makes sense. The 7.3 rating feels about right – it’s definitely above average and does what it promises, but it’s not going to be the highlight of your trip. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day properly, and then head out to explore everything Belgrade has to offer. For the price point and location, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time out and about in the city, it’s actually a pretty smart choice.
