You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Moskva? It’s actually not the grand old Moskva everyone thinks of when they hear the name – this is a different beast entirely, tucked right into the heart of Stari Grad on Balkanska Street. I mean, the location alone is pretty incredible if you know Belgrade at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Knez Mihailova, but somehow you’ve managed to dodge all that tourist chaos while still being in the thick of everything that matters.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Belgrade – not trying too hard, but clearly someone put thought into the details. Check-in was refreshingly smooth (honestly, I was expecting typical Balkan bureaucracy), and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations. The rooms are what I’d call confidently modern – clean lines, decent space, and thank god, proper blackout curtains because those summer mornings hit hard when you’re facing east. The air conditioning actually works, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess this up. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – Balkanska can get lively, especially on weekends when people are heading to the floating clubs, but inside it’s surprisingly quiet.

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of town – you’re genuinely living like a local for a few days. There’s this little bakery around the corner that opens ridiculously early, and you’ll find yourself grabbing burek there before you even realize it’s become your routine. The hotel’s breakfast is solid (nothing fancy, but they do their kajmak and local cheeses properly), though honestly, I found myself wandering out to explore the food scene more often than not. You’re close enough to walk to Kalemegdan when you want that postcard Belgrade experience, but you’re also near all those tucked-away spots in Dorćol that most visitors never find. Parking can be tricky in this area – I’d definitely ask about their arrangements when you book because street parking is basically a blood sport around here. The 8.9 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but it nails the fundamentals and puts you exactly where you want to be if you’re serious about experiencing Belgrade rather than just passing through.
