Look, I’ll be honest with you – Hotel Majdan isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s actually a pretty solid choice if you know what you’re getting into. It sits on Mokroluška street in Voždovac, which is one of those Belgrade neighborhoods that feels properly Serbian without being touristy at all. You know what I mean? The kind of place where you’ll hear more Serbian than English, and honestly, that’s part of the charm. The building itself has that Eastern European business hotel vibe – clean lines, nothing too fancy, but they clearly put effort into keeping things updated. When I walked into the lobby, it reminded me of those mid-tier hotels you’d find in any major European city, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the area. Not just the obvious stuff like “Kalemegdan is that way” – I mean, they could tell you which bus gets you to Skadarlija fastest (spoiler: it’s not the one tourists usually take) and where to grab proper ćevapi without paying tourist prices. The rooms are… well, they’re hotel rooms, but comfortable ones. Good shower pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a cloud that collapsed. The AC works properly too, which you’ll definitely want during Belgrade’s sticky summers. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the street. Mokroluška isn’t exactly a highway, but Serbian drivers aren’t known for their quiet engines, especially in the morning.

The location is actually pretty clever once you figure it out. You’re in a real Belgrade neighborhood – there’s a fantastic little bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early, and you can walk to some decent restaurants that locals actually use. It’s not like staying in the absolute center where everything costs twice as much and feels a bit artificial. Getting to the main tourist spots takes maybe 20-30 minutes depending on traffic, but that gives you time to see how the city actually works beyond the postcards. Parking is usually manageable, which is honestly a minor miracle in Belgrade. The 7.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Grand Hyatt, but it does what it promises without any nasty surprises. If you want authentic Belgrade without roughing it or paying premium prices for a fancy address, this place gets the job done nicely.
