Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Belgrade, but this little gem on Francuska Street honestly caught me off guard. You walk up to what looks like just another building in Stari Grad, and then – boom – you’re in this beautifully renovated apartment that somehow manages to feel both modern and authentically Serbian at the same time. The hosts have clearly put real thought into this place, not just thrown together some IKEA furniture and called it a day.

What really gets me is the location. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Skadarlija – that cobblestone street everyone calls “Belgrade’s Montmartre” – but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM. Actually, the first morning I was there, I walked out and grabbed coffee from this tiny place around the corner (the owner speaks perfect English, by the way), then wandered down to the main pedestrian zone before most of the tour groups even knew what hit them. The apartment itself is spacious enough that you don’t feel like you’re living in each other’s pockets if you’re traveling with family or friends – hence the name, I guess. There’s this really comfortable living area where we ended up hanging out most evenings, planning the next day over wine we picked up from the shop downstairs. The kitchen actually works, too, which is rarer than you’d think in vacation rentals. We made breakfast a couple times, though honestly, with all the amazing bakeries within walking distance, I’m not sure why we bothered.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – the hosts get it. They left us detailed notes about everything from how to work the temperamental shower (there’s always one, right?) to which restaurants in Skadarlija are actually worth your money versus the tourist traps. They even marked up a neighborhood map with their favorite spots, including this incredible little bookshop café that I never would have found otherwise. The building itself is quiet – well, as quiet as central Belgrade gets – and the Wi-Fi is solid if you need to check in with work or post those inevitable food photos. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town, but they sent clear instructions beforehand, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway. Everything worth seeing is either walkable or a quick tram ride away. That 9.7 rating isn’t just people being nice – this place actually delivers on what it promises, which is becoming increasingly rare these days.
