You know what struck me first about the Courtyard by Marriott in Belgrade? It actually feels like it belongs in the city center, not like some generic hotel chain that got dropped there. The building sits right on Vase Čarapića street in Stari Grad – and honestly, if you’re not familiar with Belgrade, that’s exactly where you want to be. You’re basically a five-minute walk from Knez Mihailova pedestrian zone, which means you can stumble back to your room after exploring the kafanas without dealing with taxis or trying to figure out the bus system at midnight.

The lobby has this clean, modern vibe but without feeling sterile – there’s usually a mix of business travelers and tourists hanging around, and the staff actually seems to know what’s happening in the city. I mean, they gave me better restaurant recommendations than most travel blogs. The rooms are what you’d expect from Marriott – reliable, comfortable beds, good Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out during video calls, and bathrooms that actually have decent water pressure (not always a given in older Belgrade buildings). What I appreciated was the soundproofing; even though you’re in the heart of the city, you’re not dealing with street noise all night. The air conditioning works well too, which matters more than you’d think during those sweltering Belgrade summers when the whole city feels like it’s melting.

Here’s the thing about this location – you’re close enough to walk to everything that matters, but you’re not right in the thick of the weekend chaos around Skadarlija or the riverside clubs. It’s sort of the sweet spot where you can get to the fortress in fifteen minutes on foot, hit the bohemian quarter whenever you want, but still get actual sleep. The breakfast is solid (nothing groundbreaking, but fresh and filling), and there’s a decent fitness center if you’re one of those people who actually uses hotel gyms. Parking can be a bit tricky – I mean, it’s city center Belgrade, so that’s not really their fault – but they do have a garage situation figured out. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the most luxurious place in the Balkans, but it delivers on what most travelers actually need. Plus, and this might sound small, but the elevators are fast and reliable, which you don’t fully appreciate until you’ve stayed somewhere with ancient, creaky ones that take forever.
