City Place Apartments

Honestly, when I first pulled up to City Place Apartments on Dobrinjska, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the street’s quieter than you’d think for being right in Savski Venac, which actually turned out to be perfect. You know what struck me first? The building has this solid, no-nonsense vibe that screams “locals live here too,” not some sterile tourist bubble. I mean, that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to get a real feel for Belgrade.

The apartments themselves are spacious in a way that surprised me – I’d stayed in plenty of four-star places that felt cramped, but here you can actually spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your luggage. The kitchen setup is legit too, not just some mini-fridge and hotplate situation. I ended up cooking a few meals because, well, the Zeleni Venac market is literally a short walk away, and you’d be crazy not to grab some of that fresh produce. The Wi-Fi actually works (miracle for the Balkans sometimes), and the beds are firm without being like sleeping on concrete – honestly, I slept better there than I have in some five-star places.

What really sold me on the location was how walkable everything is, but not in that touristy “everything’s sanitized for your convenience” way. You’re genuinely in a neighborhood where people live and work. The tram stop at Zeleni Venac gets you anywhere you need to go, and if you’re feeling ambitious, walking to Kalemegdan takes maybe fifteen minutes through some pretty interesting side streets. I loved that I could grab coffee at the little café on the corner – the owner doesn’t speak much English but makes incredible Turkish coffee – or duck into the small grocery store when I needed basics. The area gets properly quiet at night too, which was a relief after spending time in Skadarlija where the party never really stops. Check-in was smooth, though the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7, so definitely coordinate arrival times. Parking can be a bit of a hunt on the street, but there’s a garage nearby if you’re driving. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it nails the fundamentals and gives you that authentic Belgrade experience without the hostel chaos or hotel stuffiness.
