You know what caught me off guard about City Nest? The moment you step inside, it actually feels like someone’s really well-designed apartment rather than a typical hotel lobby. I mean, the building itself sits right on Makedonska street in Stari Grad, and honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot to get a feel for Belgrade’s old town vibe. The whole area has this lived-in authenticity – you’ll hear Serbian conversations drifting from the café downstairs in the morning, and there’s something genuinely comforting about that soundtrack while you’re getting ready for the day.

The suites themselves live up to that “modern and cozy” promise, though I’d lean more toward the cozy side. They’ve got this warm, almost Scandinavian thing going on with the furniture – lots of natural wood and soft textures that make you want to actually hang out in your room instead of just crashing there. The kitchenettes are surprisingly functional too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights. I spent a good chunk of one evening just sitting by the window watching people navigate the narrow streets below, and the soundproofing is solid enough that the urban buzz stays pleasantly in the background rather than keeping you awake.

What really sells this place, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Knez Mihailova (that’s the main pedestrian street everyone hits), but you’re tucked away enough that you feel like you’re discovering something locals actually know about. The staff seems to get this too – they’re not pushing touristy restaurant recommendations but will point you toward the bakery around the corner that does incredible burek, or mention which evenings the nearby streets get lively with impromptu music. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and they actually seem to care about the small stuff – like making sure you know about the decent coffee machine in your room and how the building’s front door works (it’s one of those old-style locks that takes a second to figure out). At an 8.7 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine comfort and location without paying for unnecessary bells and whistles. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Belgrade trip before you’ve even checked out.
