Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Belgrade, but Captain Misha’s really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know how Stari Grad can be tricky with accommodations? Either you’re dealing with Soviet-era leftovers or paying through the nose for boutique places that try too hard. This spot actually gets it right. The moment you walk up to 6a Kapetan-Mišina (and yes, you’ll probably walk past it once because the entrance is more subtle than you’d expect), you realize someone put real thought into this place. The building has that solid Belgrade bone structure – thick walls that actually keep street noise out, which honestly matters more than you think when you’re this close to the action.

What I love about staying here is that you’re genuinely in the neighborhood, not just visiting it. There’s this little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM, and the smell of fresh bread drifts up the street – that’s how you know you’re in the real Belgrade, not some tourist bubble. The rooms themselves feel like someone’s well-traveled friend decorated them, if that makes sense. Everything works (the shower pressure is actually impressive), but it doesn’t feel sterile or corporate. I mean, the rating of 9.5 out of 10 tells you something, but what it doesn’t tell you is how the staff genuinely seems to care about whether you find that good rakija bar or figure out the bus system. They’ll draw you little maps on napkins – I still have mine somewhere.

Here’s the thing about this part of Stari Grad that most people don’t realize until they’re walking around at night: it’s got this perfect balance where you can stumble home from Skadarlija without needing a taxi, but you’re not dealing with drunk tourists outside your window at 3 AM. The street itself is quiet enough that you’ll sleep well, but step out the front door and you’re five minutes from places locals actually eat and drink. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – welcome to Belgrade, honestly – but there are spots if you know how to parallel park and don’t mind walking a block or two. What really sold me on this place, though, is that it feels like the kind of spot you’d recommend to someone you actually like, not just anyone asking for a hotel tip. It’s got character without being quirky for the sake of it, and honestly, after dealing with some of the cookie-cutter places that have popped up around the city, that matters more than you might think.
