You know what caught me off guard about BW Penthouse? The elevator ride up to the 23rd floor – honestly, I didn’t expect much from the lobby, but then those doors open and you’re suddenly looking out over half of Belgrade through floor-to-ceiling windows. The place sits right on Bulevar Vudroa Vilsona, which sounds fancy but it’s actually just a pretty normal street in Savski Venac, though being up that high changes everything.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve made the most of that height. The rooms – well, they’re calling it a penthouse but it’s more like a really well-positioned hotel with serious views – face different directions, so you might catch the Sava River winding through the city or the sprawl of New Belgrade across the water. I stayed there in late spring when the trees were just getting green, and honestly, watching the city wake up from up there with coffee in hand was pretty spectacular. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but everything works properly and the staff actually knows the neighborhood. Check-in was smooth, no weirdness with the key cards, and they speak decent English if your Serbian is rusty (or nonexistent, like mine was).

Here’s the thing though – and this is something you won’t read in most reviews – the location is actually perfect for people who want to be in Belgrade without being in the thick of the Skadarlija tourist crowds. You’re still close enough to walk to Kalemegdan Fortress in about fifteen minutes, and there’s a decent grocery store literally across the street if you need water or snacks. The area gets quiet at night, which I loved, but it means you’ll want to head toward the old town or across to Zemun if you’re looking for late-night action. Parking can be tricky on the street level, but they’ve got options – just ask when you book.

The rooms themselves are clean and modern without being sterile, if that makes sense. Good air conditioning (crucial in Belgrade summers), decent WiFi that actually works from bed, and bathrooms that feel updated. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but after a day of walking around Belgrade’s hills and cobblestones, having a comfortable bed and that view to come back to felt pretty great. The 8.6 rating seems fair – there are probably fancier places in the city center, but for the price point and that unique perch above everything, it delivers what it promises. Plus, there’s something satisfying about telling people you stayed on the 23rd floor in a city where most buildings barely reach ten stories.
