The windows are big enough that you get proper natural light, which is honestly a bigger deal than you’d think in this part of the city where buildings sit pretty close together. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal hotel lobby stuff. The host clearly knows the neighborhood well and gave me the kind of local tips you can’t find online – like which kafana actually has the best live music (it changes depending on the night) and where to get proper burek in the morning.
Here’s the thing about staying in Skadarlija though – it can get lively, especially on weekends when the restaurants fill up with both locals and tourists. But the apartment’s position on Knez-Miletina means you’re close enough to walk to everything in about thirty seconds, yet just removed enough that you’re not dealing with the main foot traffic until like 2 AM. I actually found the ambient sound kind of charming – you know, the clatter of plates, conversations in multiple languages, the occasional accordion. It felt like being part of the neighborhood rather than just observing it. Parking can be tricky (this is old Belgrade, after all), but there are spots if you know where to look, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car much. Everything worth seeing in the old town is walkable, and the tram connections to the rest of the city are solid.
