You know what caught me off guard about Apartment Vukanja? I was expecting just another Belgrade rental, but this place actually has some serious charm tucked away on Kolarčeva Street. The building itself has that classic Stari Grad character – you’re literally in the heart of old Belgrade here, which means cobblestones under your feet and that unmistakable mix of Austro-Hungarian architecture everywhere you look.

The apartment itself is honestly better than most hotels I’ve stayed in around this area. Everything feels thoughtfully put together without being overly precious about it, if that makes sense. The kitchen actually works (I mean, you can cook real meals here), and the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes like some places I could mention. What really sold me though was stepping out onto Kolarčeva in the morning – you’re maybe a three-minute walk from Skadarlija, which is perfect if you want to wander through the bohemian quarter without dealing with the tourist crowds first thing. And honestly, being this close to Kalemegdan means you can slip away to the fortress whenever the city gets a bit much.

The location thing is sort of incredible when you think about it – you’re surrounded by some of Belgrade’s best kafanas, but the street itself stays relatively quiet at night. I was worried about noise (Stari Grad can get pretty lively), but the windows do their job well enough. Parking’s always going to be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town, but there are spots if you’re patient, and really, you’ll end up walking everywhere anyway. The 9.1 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places where small details actually work in your favor. The check-in was smooth, the place was spotless, and there’s this lived-in comfort that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s apartment rather than some sterile rental. Plus, you’re close enough to the Danube that evening walks become this automatic thing you’ll find yourself doing.
