You know what struck me first about Apartment Teodora? It’s tucked right on Slovenska street in Zemun, which honestly feels like discovering Belgrade’s best-kept secret. I mean, most tourists stick to the main city center, but Zemun has this incredible old-world charm that the guidebooks barely touch on – cobblestone streets, Habsburg architecture, and you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Danube waterfront where locals actually hang out.

The apartment itself is one of those places that surprises you. From the street, you might walk right past it, but once you’re inside, everything just clicks. The owners clearly live in Belgrade (or at least know it well) because they’ve thought of stuff that chain hotels never do – proper coffee setup, decent Wi-Fi that actually works for video calls, and windows that open wide enough to let in those river breezes on summer evenings. The 4-star rating feels right, though honestly, the 9.5 guest rating tells the real story. It’s not fancy in that sterile hotel way, but it’s comfortable in the way that makes you want to stay an extra day. The bed is actually good – I slept through the night without any of that tossing around you get in typical tourist accommodations.

What really sold me on the location was walking to Gardoš Tower one evening. It’s maybe ten minutes uphill (and I mean uphill – wear decent shoes), but the sunset views over the Danube and back toward Belgrade’s skyline are absolutely worth it. Plus, you’re right in the heart of where Zemun’s restaurant scene is happening. Forget the touristy places along Knez Mihailova – the kafanas here serve food that locals actually eat, and the prices won’t make you wince. Parking can be a bit tricky on Slovenska itself, but there are side streets where you can usually find a spot, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you’ll probably want to walk everywhere anyway. The only thing I’d mention is that weekend evenings can get a bit lively – not obnoxiously loud, but you’ll hear people enjoying themselves, especially during summer when everyone’s out later. If you’re the type who needs absolute silence, bring earplugs, but personally, I found it kind of charming. It felt like staying in a real neighborhood rather than some sanitized hotel district.
