You know what struck me first about Apartment Roosevelt? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street in Zvezdara, which honestly feels like discovering Belgrade’s best-kept secret. I mean, most tourists stick to the old town, but this neighborhood – it’s where real Belgrade happens. You’ve got locals walking their dogs in the morning, kids playing in the courtyards, and this authentic Serbian rhythm that you just don’t get in the touristy spots.

The building itself has that pre-war charm that Belgrade does so well – solid, understated, with these beautiful high ceilings that make the apartments feel way more spacious than you’d expect. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep the original character while making everything feel completely modern. The floors have this gorgeous parquet that creaks just slightly when you walk (in a good way, not annoying), and the windows are these tall, elegant things that let in tons of light. Actually, the whole place feels brighter than most city accommodations I’ve stayed in. The kitchen setup is surprisingly well-equipped too – I’m talking proper cookware, not those flimsy hotel basics. Perfect if you want to grab some fresh bread from the bakery down the street and actually make breakfast like a human being.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Kalemegdan Park, which sounds far but honestly it’s the perfect distance. Close enough to hit the fortress for sunset (and trust me, you want to do that), but far enough that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The tram stop is literally around the corner – locals use line 12 to get downtown, and once you figure that out, you’re golden. There’s this little kafana called Tri Šešira nearby that serves the kind of ćevapi that’ll ruin you for anywhere else, and honestly, being able to walk there after a long day of sightseeing feels like winning the lottery. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s that typical European city situation where you’re hunting for street spots – but the trade-off is being in an actual neighborhood instead of some sterile hotel district. The whole area gets delightfully quiet after about 10 PM, which means you’ll actually sleep well, something I definitely can’t say about every place I’ve stayed in Belgrade.
