You know what surprised me most about Apartment Forest? The name actually makes sense once you’re there. I mean, you’re right in the heart of Stari Grad – literally the old town – but somehow this place feels like a quiet retreat from all the Belgrade chaos. It’s tucked away on Safarikova street, which honestly took me a minute to find the first time (the street numbers aren’t always obvious in this neighborhood), but that’s part of what makes it special.

The building itself has that solid, pre-war feel that you get in this part of Belgrade – thick walls that actually keep the noise out, which is huge when you’re this close to the action. I stayed here during a pretty busy weekend in summer, and while you could hear the occasional late-night reveler wandering home from Skadarlija (the bohemian quarter is basically around the corner), it never felt disruptive. The apartments are properly soundproofed, unlike some places I’ve crashed in this city. What really got me was the attention to detail – everything worked, from the shower pressure to the kitchen appliances, which honestly isn’t always a given in Belgrade accommodations. The whole setup feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room.

Location-wise, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Kalemegdan Park and the fortress, which means you can actually stumble out of bed and catch the sunrise over the Danube if you’re into that sort of thing. The tram stop on Kralja Petra is close enough that you don’t need to think about taxis, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the rumble all night. I loved being able to walk to the green market on Zeleni Venac in the morning – there’s something about buying fresh kajmak and bread for breakfast that just hits different when you’re staying somewhere with a proper kitchen. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where actual Belgradians go about their daily business, not just tourists snapping photos. You’ll find yourself grabbing coffee at the same kafana as locals heading to work, and honestly, that’s when you know you’ve found something good. The 9-point rating isn’t just about the apartment itself – it’s about how the whole experience comes together in a way that makes you feel like you’re actually living in Belgrade for a few days, not just passing through.
