Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I climbed up to the second floor of this building on Svetogorska – you know how apartment rentals can be hit or miss. But Apartment Auer completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. The moment Marko (the owner) let me in, I could tell this wasn’t just some hastily converted space thrown onto Booking.com. Everything felt intentional, from the way the afternoon light hits those big windows to the little coffee setup that’s actually stocked with decent beans, not the instant stuff you usually get.
What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night – and I mean genuinely quiet, which is saying something since you’re right in Stari Grad. During the day you’ll hear some street life filtering up, but it’s the good kind of city sounds, not traffic chaos. The apartment itself has this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake; the couch is actually comfortable enough to fall asleep on (I may have done this after a long day exploring Kalemegdan), and the kitchen has everything you’d actually need if you decide to grab groceries from the little market around the corner on Cara Dušana. The shower pressure is excellent – seriously, after walking around Belgrade’s cobblestone streets all day, that matters more than you’d think.
Location-wise, you’re basically in the sweet spot of old Belgrade without being right on top of the tourist crowds. Skadarlija is maybe a ten-minute walk when you want that classic bohemian restaurant experience, but you can also just wander down toward the Danube when you need some quiet time. I loved that I could walk to Republic Square for the obvious stuff, but also discover those tiny kafanas tucked into side streets that locals actually frequent. The building itself sits on a street that feels authentically residential – you’ll see older Serbian ladies heading to market in the morning and smell someone’s grandmother’s cooking wafting through the hallways around dinner time. Parking can be tricky if you’re driving (street parking is your best bet), but honestly, you won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The whole experience just felt… right, if that makes sense. Not fancy in a showy way, but thoughtfully put together by someone who actually cares about their guests having a real Belgrade experience rather than just a place to crash.

Everything was very nice. Aleksandar welcomed us very nicely considering that we booked a few hours before arriving, because our initial accommodation was cancelled. We liked everything and the room was very good.
A really nice apartment situated in the heart of Belgrade. The owner was very attentive, meeting us to explain how everything worked and offer advice on sight-seeing attractions. He also runs a walking tour, which was thoroughly interesting and informative. The apartment had all the usual facilities except for a washing machine.
What could be improved: There is nothing to dislike about the apartment but a warning to be careful to agree to a price with taxi drivers before getting in, oherwise, you risk being ripped off. There does not appear to be any Ubers or Bolts, which makes it more difficult. Furthermore, internet roaming is not available unless you pay additional extortionate charges. This makes it difficult to find your way around - we resorted to an 'old school' map. Having said all that, Belgrade is a lovely city to visit, and we really enjoyed our time there, so don't be put off - just be prepared.
I would like to remark extreme hospitality. Aleksandar is the person that is here when you need him and leave you alone when you do not need. How he understand the timing is pure magic.
What could be improved: I was working from the apartment and and I was missing the table lamp. In general light is ok, but not enough for working.
Beautiful apartment in a great location. Aleksander is beyond perfect as a host. It feels like he is welcoming you into his home, making sure every detail is attended to. The apartment is spacious and decorated so well. My first thought when I walked in was, “I could live here full time” not just stay for a few nights. It looked and felt like how I would decorate my own apartment. Aleksander offers so much more than any place I’ve stayed in 3 1/2 years as a digital nomad. Not only was the kitchen stocked well but there were apples, coffee, water, local brandy if you want a taste, shampoo and soaps, and get this….fluffy white bathrobes. I felt like I was in a five-star hotel. There is a lot of light, everything modern but it echoes of the apartment’s beautify history of Aleksander’s family. He provided very interesting background about the apartment and city, showed me on the map all his recommendations, offered a small guidebook and made sure I knew how the TV worked (it was the night of the US elections). And, thanks to a restaurant recommendation he made, I had one of the best meals/nights ever! Great communication, easy to find and Aleksander met me at the front door the moment I arrived. I so wish I could have stayed longer but I will be back and will most definitely stay at Auer’s Apartment. I give the highest recommendation!

Alex is fantastic, so helpful, the apartment is beautiful, well equipped and in an excellent location. Really good value for money.
What could be improved: We didn’t sleep that well - the street noise was loud at night.
Aleksander the host was very welcoming and spent some time showing me the apartment and places to visit. This helped make my stay exceptional. The apartment is very comfortable with a decent bathroom and kitchen area. There was nothing to complain about- it really was a great place to stay. Highly recommended.

Building is old with old fashion elevator but rooms relatively well insulated from street noise .No USB sockets to charge smart phones
