You know what really surprised me about Apartment Akacija Gardens? It doesn’t feel like a typical Belgrade accommodation at all – and I mean that in the best way possible. The moment I walked into this place on Kumodraška, I got this immediate sense that someone actually cared about creating a proper living space, not just cramming beds into rooms and calling it a day.
The location in Voždovac is honestly perfect if you want to experience Belgrade like locals do, rather than being stuck in the touristy Stari Grad bubble. I mean, you’re still only about 15 minutes from the city center by tram (the number 9 stops practically at your doorstep), but you get to wake up to actual neighborhood sounds – kids playing in courtyards, the coffee vendor setting up his cart, that sort of authentic morning rhythm. The gardens they named the place after aren’t just marketing fluff either – there’s genuine greenery around the building, which is pretty rare for Belgrade apartments. I actually spent my first morning coffee just sitting outside, watching the acacia trees sway while planning my day.
What really won me over was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The apartments have this lived-in comfort that you just can’t fake – proper kitchen equipment (not those sad hotel kettles and two cups), bathrooms with actual water pressure, and beds that don’t feel like they came from a hostel clearance sale. The WiFi actually works consistently too, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy in 2024 but somehow still is in a lot of Belgrade places. Parking was surprisingly hassle-free – there’s dedicated space, so you’re not doing that Belgrade parking dance where you circle blocks for twenty minutes. The staff seem to genuinely know the neighborhood well; when I asked about finding good burek nearby, they didn’t just point me toward some tourist trap but sent me to this tiny place three blocks over that locals actually use.
The whole setup works especially well if you’re staying more than just a night or two. Having proper apartment space means you can actually unpack, cook a meal if you want, or just spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. Belgrade can be pretty intense when you’re constantly out exploring, so having this kind of home base where you can properly decompress makes a huge difference. Plus, being in Voždovac puts you close to some genuinely interesting spots that most visitors miss – Avala Tower is an easy trip from here, and you’re much closer to the Danube’s quieter stretches if you want to escape the Kalemegdan crowds. Honestly, after staying here, I can’t imagine going back to cramped hotel rooms when I’m in Belgrade. It just feels like the right way to experience the city.
