You know what struck me first about The Residence 59? It’s that perfect sweet spot where you feel like you’ve discovered something special without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. I mean, Zemun isn’t exactly central Belgrade – it’s actually this charming old town that feels completely separate from the main city, even though technically it’s just across the Danube. The hotel sits right on Prvomajska street, which honestly sounds more intimidating than it is. It’s actually pretty quiet, especially compared to the chaos you’d deal with staying in the main tourist areas downtown.
The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciated. Nothing flashy or trying too hard, just solid and well-maintained in that European way where you can tell someone actually cares about the details. The rooms are spacious – and I mean genuinely spacious, not that “cozy” nonsense hotels usually try to sell you when they mean cramped. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there because it’s all those little things done right. The WiFi actually works (shocking, I know), the shower has proper water pressure, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled a mattress all night. Parking was straightforward too, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate Belgrade with a rental car, you’ll understand why that’s worth mentioning.
What really sold me on this place though was the location within Zemun itself. You’re walking distance from Gardoš Tower – that’s the medieval tower everyone posts photos of, and honestly, the sunset views from up there are worth the trip alone. The Danube waterfront is maybe a ten-minute stroll, where you’ll find these fantastic fish restaurants that locals actually eat at, not just tourist traps. There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels authentically Serbian rather than generically international. The staff seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They gave me actual directions to places instead of just pointing vaguely and saying “that way.” Look, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it’s the kind of hotel where everything just works the way it should. If you want to experience Belgrade beyond the main drag and don’t mind a short trip into the city center when you want the full urban experience, The Residence 59 hits that balance perfectly.

One of the best stays in Belgrade. The apartment was new, spacious, beautifully decorated and quiet. The staff at the reception were friendly and extremely helpful. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Belgrade.

What could be improved: It's not so close to the city center, but on the bright side, since 1 Ian 2025 the public transportation is completely free, and taxis have decent prices.

If you’re traveling by car, you can park freely in front of the building. There’s also the option of underground parking for an additional fee.
I highly recommend it. We will definitely stay there again.
