I mean, when you’re walking down this quiet cobblestone street in Dorćol, you almost feel like you’re stepping back in time, but then you get inside and it’s this perfect blend of old-world charm and actually functional modern living. The building itself has that beautiful Belgrade architecture from the early 1900s, with those thick walls that keep everything surprisingly quiet even though you’re literally in the heart of Stari Grad.
What really gets me about this apartment is how the owner clearly gets what travelers actually need. The kitchen – and I’m picky about kitchens – has everything you’d want if you’re planning to hit the Kalenic market and cook some of those amazing Serbian ingredients. The bed is honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in the Balkans (and trust me, I’ve encountered some questionable ones), and there’s this lovely morning light that comes through the windows facing the courtyard. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Skadarlija, which tourists love, but you’re also right there with all the new galleries and cafes that have been popping up in Dorćol – it’s like you get the best of both worlds without the noise and crowds.
The practical stuff matters too, and this is where the place really shines. Parking can be tricky in this neighborhood, but there’s usually street parking available if you know to look on the side streets (the host actually gives you good tips about this). Check-in was smooth – none of that “meet me at a random corner at exactly 3:17 PM” nonsense you sometimes get with Belgrade rentals. And honestly, for the quality you’re getting, the price point makes sense. I’ve paid more for places that were half as thoughtfully put together. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that the shower pressure isn’t amazing, but it’s perfectly adequate, and the hot water is reliable. If you’re someone who needs to be right on Knez Mihailova or in the absolute center of nightlife, this might feel a bit quiet – but personally, I loved being able to walk home from dinner without fighting through crowds of tourists, then actually get a good night’s sleep before exploring more of the city the next day.
