Garni Hotel Zavicaj
You know what struck me first about Garni Hotel Zavicaj?
You know what struck me first about Garni Hotel Zavicaj? It’s tucked away on Oblakovska Street in a way that feels like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t figured out yet. I mean, you’re still in Savski Venac – so you’re properly in Belgrade – but there’s this residential calm that’s honestly refreshing after the hustle around Knez Mihailova or Republic Square.
The building itself has that understated Serbian elegance thing going on, where they don’t need to shout about being a 4-star place because, well, you can just tell. Walking in, I was surprised by how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood – like when I asked about getting to Kalemegdan without dealing with the main tourist drag, the guy at reception immediately suggested cutting through the side streets near Brankov Bridge. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at the big chain hotels. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully done – not trying to be flashy Instagram moments, but everything works properly (thank god, because Serbian summers can be brutal and that AC was perfect). The 8.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there a day or two; it’s those small details that add up, like actually decent water pressure and windows that block out street noise pretty effectively.
What really won me over, though, was the location’s sweet spot factor. You can walk to the fortress and the old town easily enough – maybe 15 minutes if you’re not dawdling – but you’re also positioned where you can slip into the real Belgrade rhythm. There’s a great little kafana just around the corner that locals actually use (not just tourists taking photos of ćevapi), and the morning walk to get coffee feels like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Belgrade will tell you is basically a minor miracle. I stayed there during late spring when the city starts getting lively again, and honestly, the balance felt perfect – close enough to everything that matters, far enough from Skadarlija that you’re not dealing with drunk bachelor parties stumbling around at 2 AM. If you’re the type who wants to experience Belgrade like someone who actually lives there (but with hotel housekeeping and a proper breakfast), this place gets it right without making a big deal about getting it right.

What could be improved: Finding the hotel was a bit tricky
The location is perfect and exactly 10 to 15 min walk from the town and the attractions are very close .
What could be improved: The hotel can be more flexible when the customer asks for late check-in in case the hotel is not fully booked. We arrived almost 12 am and needed some times after breakfast but they was very strong about the check out . 11am . Rules is rules but some friendly actions can be good in the future.

What could be improved: There was no electric hot water and the room was hot.
The hotel is new, the person at the reception and in the restaurant spoke very good english. The room is comfortable and warm. Very convininient if you are just travelling through Belgrade and you need a place to stop - right on the main road.
What could be improved: The breakfast is pretty basic, only egg-based dishes without any choice.
As with everywhere in Serbia, smoking is allowed in the restaurant, so even in the non-smoking area you can smell the cigarettes...
