So I stumbled across Apartment No1 on Čubrina Street completely by accident – well, sort of by accident since I was actually looking for something in Stari Grad but hadn’t expected to find this little gem tucked away just four doors down from the main buzz. You know what struck me first? The building itself has that perfect Belgrade mix of old-world character without feeling like it’s about to crumble on you, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of town.

The thing about staying here is you’re literally in the heart of everything that makes Belgrade interesting, but – and this is crucial – you’re on one of those quieter side streets that doesn’t get the late-night party crowds stumbling past your windows. I mean, you can still hear the energy from Skadarlija when things get really going (especially on weekends), but it’s more like a distant hum than chaos right outside your door. The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there, not like those sterile hotel rooms where everything’s bolted down and beige. There’s proper kitchen equipment if you want to grab some fresh produce from the market on Bajloni – which is maybe a three-minute walk – and the bed is genuinely comfortable, not just “hotel comfortable.”

What really sold me on the place though was how the owner clearly gets what travelers actually need. The WiFi works properly (tested it on a video call with no issues), there’s decent water pressure in the shower, and they’ve got those little touches like proper hangers and enough outlets near the bed for your phone charger. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to Kalemegdan when you want that classic Belgrade fortress experience, but far enough from the tourist hordes that you can duck into local kafanas where people are speaking Serbian, not posing for Instagram. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just really good at being what it is. Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in Belgrade rather than just passing through, this spot gets it right. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – though with Stari Grad’s restaurants practically on your doorstep, you won’t miss them.
