Apartment Grand Suite

So I stumbled across the Apartment Grand Suite while wandering through Stari Grad, and honestly, it’s one of those places that sneaks up on you. The building on Strahinjica Bana looks pretty unassuming from the street – I mean, you’d walk right past it if you didn’t know what you were looking for – but step inside and it’s actually quite impressive. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels more like a boutique hotel than your typical Belgrade apartment rental. What really got my attention though was how quiet it is, considering you’re literally in the heart of the old town. I guess being tucked away on a side street has its perks.

The suite itself lives up to the “grand” part of the name, which honestly surprised me because so many places oversell themselves. You’ve got proper space to spread out – not just a cramped studio with delusions of grandeur. The kitchen’s actually functional (rare for these kinds of places), and the bathroom’s got one of those rainfall showerheads that makes you want to stay in there way too long. The furnishings feel solid, nothing wobbly or cheap, though I’ll admit the decor’s a bit safe – you know, that international hotel aesthetic that could be anywhere. But the windows are huge, and if you’re lucky enough to get a higher floor, you’ll catch glimpses of the fortress walls peeking through the neighboring buildings.

Location-wise, you’re basically winning the Belgrade lottery here. Skadarlija’s bohemian quarter is literally a five-minute walk – perfect for those late-night kafana sessions where you’ll inevitably end up singing along to Serbian folk music after too much rakija. The Danube’s close enough for morning runs, and you can actually walk to most of the main sights without dealing with Belgrade’s… let’s call it “creative” public transport system. Parking’s always a nightmare in this part of town, but they’ve got a garage situation figured out, which is honestly worth its weight in gold. The 8.4 rating makes total sense when you factor in the location and space – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Belgrade, but it nails the fundamentals. Check-in was smooth, the Wi-Fi actually works (not always a given), and the staff knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the good bakery around the corner, not just the tourist traps. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was living in Belgrade rather than just visiting it.
